Making reporting easier to reach, and easier to credit

Two static mockups exploring changes to Instagram's reporting flow: adding a SafeSteps attribution to the report confirmation screen, and lifting the report action onto the post itself instead of burying it two menus deep.

Unofficial design mockups for a student project. Not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Instagram or Meta. Nothing here is functional — no form submits, and no data is collected.

1 — Report confirmation, with attribution

Submit
  • New checkbox above the Submit button, checked by default when the user arrives from SafeSteps.
  • Everything else is a faithful copy of the current screen — same copy, same hierarchy, same Submit button.
  • Gives a measurable link between playing SafeSteps and actually reporting something.

2 — Report from the post itself

A red report action added to the left of Save, in the post action bar.

  • New red report button sits directly left of Save — one tap, in the same row users already use.
  • Today reporting is behind the ⋯ menu → Report, which is two taps and a menu most people never open.
  • Red distinguishes it from the neutral engagement actions without competing with the Like heart.
